A New Rhythm in Qatar

ree

Since moving to Qatar, life has been about finding a new flow – one that fits the heat, the culture, and my own well-being. It hasn’t been without its challenges, but I’ve found a rhythm that’s working beautifully.

I’m so used to the fresh sea air first thing in the morning, and I do miss that. Here, we’re surrounded by buildings and trees instead. But there’s a beauty in it too. The shade from the tall buildings in the morning actually makes my walks possible – and it feels like a gift. At 6:30am I’m already outside, moving in the quiet before the sun gets too fierce. I’m always greeted with a smile by the reception staff in our building, and those small moments of kindness really set the tone for the day.

Back in the UK, I’d start my day by opening the windows wide and grounding outside – but on the 38th floor, that’s not an option! At first it felt strange, but I keep reminding myself this is temporary. And it’s teaching me patience and resilience in new ways.

Breakfast has become a real anchor point. I always make sure it’s high in protein – something I encourage for women especially, because it balances energy, supports hormones, and helps to keep cravings away. I feel so much stronger and more focused when I start the day this way.

Hydration has been another big learning curve. At first, I was getting terrible headaches and couldn’t figure out why. Then I realised – it wasn’t just about drinking more water, but replacing salts and minerals too. Since adding natural electrolytes, those headaches have gone, and I feel so much more energised. It’s a reminder that sometimes the smallest tweaks in how we look after ourselves can have the biggest impact.

Evenings have their own rhythm too. After dinner, we head out for a gentle walk. It helps with blood sugar balance and digestion, and it’s a lovely way to round off the day. On the days when it’s too hot, I keep my steps up inside. Where there’s a will, there’s always a way!

Sleep has always been sacred to me. I’ve kept with my evening routine- I dim the lights in the evening, I’ve been trying to go to bed earlier, no screens an hour before, and I use infrared light before bed. Prayer and gratitude practice end the day on such a calming note. It all helps reset my circadian rhythm and leaves me waking up more balanced.

Of course, moving hasn’t been without its challenges. I miss family and friends – those familiar hugs and moments of closeness. But Qatar has given me so much warmth in return. The people here are kind, generous, and always willing to help. And the sun shines every single day, which feels like its own blessing.

Settling in has been about adjusting, learning, and leaning into gratitude. It’s not always easy, but it’s showing me that wellness and balance can be created anywhere – as long as you carry the right mindset!
